3 Ways To Stay Present using Life Coaching


Do you find it difficult to stay in the present moment? So often, we are either reminiscing on old memories and past regrets or planning months ahead into the future. Therefore, we sometimes miss the magic that happens to us in the present moment. Spending too much energy on the future or the past can cause you to miss important parts of your life, leading to anxiety and fear. 

There’s a reason that all the spiritual people you know will tell you to learn to stay present. Present-minded people tend to be happier and have better self-esteem. Let’s review three ways to practice staying in the present. 

1. Become the Observer using life coaching

Take on the role of the observer of your life. Becoming the observer is a way to notice changes in your emotions, thoughts, and actions. The key is to witness your feelings or actions when they come up and not judge yourself. It’s also important to remember that you are not your thoughts. When you feel an emotion coming up, feel into it. Remember that you are also not your emotions either. By noticing the subtle changes in your feelings and behaviors through the eyes of the observer, you will be able to stay more present and focused on the now. You should be able to spend less time in the past or “future tripping.’

2. Practice Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is a fantastic way to stay in the present moment. If you aren’t present, you won’t be able to appreciate your life and the stuff you have to be grateful for. You can begin each day or end the day with a gratitude practice. For example, in a gratitude journal, you can write three things you are thankful for each morning. 

You could enjoy nature to practice gratitude. Going for a walk and listening to the ocean or the birds allows us to stay present when we notice and appreciate the nature around us. 

Another great way to practice gratitude is to work on the lack mentality. So, instead of focusing on what you don’t have. Turn it around to abundance. 

So, begin to focus and feel grateful for all the good things you have in life. For example, instead of worrying about an outfit that you don’t have, remember to be thankful for the health that you do have.

3. Connect the Mind and Body

To connect to your environment and become more aware, you must find the bridge between the mind and the body. One way to achieve this connection is to work with the breath. Breathwork is a form of meditation. When you focus on your breath, you can scan how your body feels as you breathe in, breathe out, or hold in.

As you breathe, notice any parts of your body that are stiff or need attention. Also, see where your thoughts go. 

If you have trouble focusing on your breath because your mind tends to wander, then you can use counting. For example, breathe in for eight counts, out through your mouth or nose for eight counts. This counting will help you stay present, and you’ll be able to connect your thoughts and sensations in the body to the present moment.
