I have worked in both a provider’s office and hospital medical billing. She became a licensed Medical Coder/Biller in 2007.

Where do I get trained in billing and collections?

How do I hire a billing a company?
Billing companies are built on the percent collected and the number of billables they send out. Most companies will not handle collections unless specified in your contract. Collections are on a percent collected, and billables will be a monthly fee or rate without a percent. Usually, it is 9-11% collected.
Is better to do in house billing?
If you have a trained staff that understands both billing and collections yes. Otherwise, a billing company will assist you in the insurance billing and charge you 9-11% to do. You will save that if you can do in-house billing and collections. Make sure the staff is trained.
How much does a billing company cost?
Most billing companies charge a flat monthly rate to do the billables for insurance. This does not include submitting claims that were denied or collections on any denied claims. Those are usually 9-11% of collected income.
