Certified Food Addictions Coach
PROFESSIONAL FOOD ADDICTION COACH CERTIFICATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM
Our Food Addiction Coaching Certification and Training Program will help you learn the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships with food, the chemical, emotional and physical reactions people have when food is their drug of choice.
Food Addiction has been around for a very long time but it is just starting to gain momentum as an actual addiction, beyond overeating and eating disorders like anorexia and binge eating or bulimia.
In the Food Addiction Coaching Certification and Training program, we will explain the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships with food, how to spot a hidden eating disorder, what the difference between dieting and lifestyle choices are, and how to deal with all of them as they present in your client. We address food addictions as both part of the addictive cycle and also independent of other addictions. Sometimes the person is truly addicted to food and this is their means of escape, other times they may be addicted to drugs or alcohol, shopping, sex, etc. and when they let those bad behaviors go, food becomes the go-to addiction. We see this a lot in 12 step programs when the person gives up drinking and gains 30 lbs. How many times have you heard a client say they ‘gained weight’ when they got sober? Well, that is trading one addiction for another.
We will cover both types of addiction in this class, food addiction (and sugar) as a primary addiction (with behaviors such as ‘stuffing’ and using food as a reward versus punishment), and also as a secondary addiction when a client gets sober. Most of the 12 step programs offer coffee with sugar, cookies, candy bars, and chain-smoking or vaping is the norm. What happens is they say “well at least you are not robbing people for a snickers bar.” What they don’t address is how the sugar is addictive and the caffeine is as well. These clients become addicted to sugar and food and can’t stop eating garbage. When they eat well they feel, and when they eat poorly, they feel bad.
For most people, addiction is addiction and food is no different. They complete substance abuse treatment and then begin abusing food and foodstuffs. They may overeat, binge eat, indulge in sugar and caffeine, and gain weight. At The Addictions Academy, we teach you how to handle the food addiction side when the monster of drugs and alcohol is tamed. We also teach how to handle a food addiction that is independent of other addictions. Do you overeat? Use food to stuff your feelings down? Then this class will give you the tools and tricks to get both you and your clients to understand the psychology of food addiction.
NOTE: There are NO prerequisites to this course and the Food Addiction Coaching Certification and Training includes an ethics class and 10 hours of supervision. We do recommend that you also pair this class with Nutritional Recovery Coach Certification. We do offer Job Board, Networking, and Business/Private Practice assistance. We also hire from within once you are trained, certified, insured, and bonded.
