First Responder Addiction and Mental Health Training
First Responder Addiction and Mental Health Training and Education
Addiction and mental health training for First Responders is key to assisting the general population. The Addictions Academy offers education and hands-on training designed especially for the Police Officer, EMT, Firefighter, or crisis worker. The first-ever training that targets and explains addiction and how to assist in the solution of solving the epidemic that is currently rampant. In a crisis environment, it is difficult for the addicted individual to see the negative patterns of their behavior and how they not only affect their family but also their community.
Addicted individuals become non-productive members of society and sometimes very destructive when it comes to crime, (burglary, drug sales, trafficking, etc) and the goal of any community is to triage and redirect and rehabilitate the person to not only help themselves and their families but the community as a whole.
The training is a 3 prong approach: how to recognize and what to do with mental health and substance use disorders in the community/general public, how to recognize and what to do with mental health and substance use disorders in your coworkers, and how to recognize and what to do with mental health and substance use disorders in yourself.
This one-day (ON-SITE at your location) training will cover what addiction is, how to triage it, and how to offer the quickest solutions for help over-incarceration or death. Addiction and mental health training at The Addictions Academy will cover what mental health disorders are (DSM 5), and how to deal with the chronically addicted and mentally ill that are encountered so often in first responder work. We will cover what street drugs are currently available and which ones are life-threatening and what countermeasures are available for overdose and awareness. See below for what is all included in the course.
NOTE: There are NO prerequisites to this course. Also included is 6 hours of ethics self-study. We do offer Job Board, Networking, and Business/Private Practice assistance. Total hours 12.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sober Companions
Do I need a sober companion?
Not everyone will, but if you are just coming out of a residential program or our Sober on Demand concierge coaching, you can likely benefit greatly from having one. If you attend a high-stress event, like a wedding, job duty, or other event, you should have a sober buddy to go with you for support and guidance.
What is a sober companion?
Sober companions are certified, bonded, insured, and long-term sober individuals who can offer the right support for those looking to get and stay clean. They are available as a live in at your residence, or just to accompany you to events, work, gym, grocery, meetings, outings, and other high-risk situations. They can help with mental health issues like ADD, depression, eating disorders and various types of addiction: drug addiction, alcohol addiction, food addiction and sex addiction.
How are sober companions and therapists different?
Your therapist serves as your guide in your journey, helping you uncover truths about your addiction and develop the skills you need to stay clean. A sober companion is someone who supports the work you do with your therapist by accompanying you through life outside of therapy.
Do you need to be certified to be a sober companion?
You should be certified as a sober companion, bonded, and insured. You should also have at least five years of sobriety under your belt before you take on clients. You can get your certification through The Addictions Academy.
