What is Opiate Use Disorder?
Opiate Use Disorder (OUD) is the utilization of opiates or opioids for prolonged periods of time. Use can go from addiction to dependence within 3 days due to the nature of the opiates on the brain and body. The opiates or opioids hijack the neurotransmitters and detox and withdrawal can be both emotionally and physically painful.
What is Medically Assisted Treatment?
Medically Assisted Treatment is the use of drugs like Suboxone, Methadone, and Vivitrol to help ease the Acute Withdrawl and Post Acute Withdrawal symptoms of opiates on the body and brain. Ideally designed for short-term detox, a MAT program can assist with the withdrawal symptoms and remaining sober through the taper process.
Does Suboxone work?
Yes, drugs like Suboxone and Methadone work to remove the Acute and Post Acute withdrawal symptoms of opiates and opioids in the body and brain. Ideally, a person would want to use these to detox and slowly wean off to help reduce relapse.
What are the symptoms of opiate withdrawal?
Opiate Withdrawl symptoms include headaches, dizziness, lethargy, irritability, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, restless legs, flat affect to the foggy brain in the Acute Withdrawl phase, starting 12 hours after use and lasting up to 3 days. In the Post Acute Withdrawl Phase (PAWS) symptoms can last weeks or months and include, foggy brain, irritability, insomnia, and a sense of flat affect, nothing seems enjoyable or pleasurable.
