What is a Recovery Coach?

What is a Recovery Coach?

A recovery coach, also known as a sober coach is a generic term that covers many different roles. A recovery coach provides invaluable support for people who are struggling through their compulsive, obsessive and destructive behaviors fueled by the cycle of addiction. A recovery coach helps a client make smart choices and healthy decisions, with the number one priority being not drinking or using drugs and keeping complete sobriety in tack. Recovery coaches focus on the “here and now” with their clients as opposed to the “past trauma” that counselors focus on. Clients are usually carefully paired with a sober coach by similar tastes, hobbies and preferred beliefs in treatment procedures. Recovery coaches are not clinical but more ‘boots on the ground’ support. The term was coined in the 1970’s when Aerosmith went on tour and was not able to stay sober. At The Addictions Academy we offer recovery coach training and certifications.
