As someone who’s walked the road of addiction and come out the other side, this course gave me the tools, structure, and confidence to help others do the same. It wasn’t just about learning how to support others — it deepened my own recovery and strengthened my relationship with God. I am going to use the various CBT worksheets and hand them out to my clients. The information you have given is an asset to assist a lot of the clients that are ambivalent to treatment. The one that really stood out is the obituary and legacy . Many of the clients have children and the impact of this tool can be huge. I will also pass the information to counselors that are new and old to the field. Most of them can use the given tools to identify their own nuances or bias that can interrupt their ability to provide effective treatment. I have noticed, the longer a counselor is in the field the more resistant they are to changes. The past week or two I haven't been feeling 100% like myself. Disconnected from God (which happens), being toonhard on myself and forgetting how far I've come. I haven't seen the pictures on the left in a long time (until I came across them yesterday) and it all came back to me. Those pictures are just a small snapshot into the devastation and disappointment I created in my active addiction. At least a dozen times being booked into the county jail (two of those photos were actually only 12 hours apart.) Fast forward to the pictures on the right which are all testaments to what God is capable of and what recovery can look like. Spending time with my dad and my best friend at Bucs practice, taking a headshot work photo for when I got my Recovery Coach and Interventionist licenses (thanks to Cali Estes) and on the bottom with all of the volunteers for the small nonprofit we run in my hometown. This post is designed to give all glory to God. Without Him I look like the guy on the left. With Him I look like the guy on the right.
