What is an interventionist?

An interventionist is a person that helps an active drug or alcohol user go from active use to getting help. The help could be inpatient treatment, it can be detox, it can be partial hospitalization plan (PHP), or intensive outpatient (IOP). The objective behind the interventionist is to intervene on the bad behavior and the bad situation. That’s what an interventionist does.

There are two levels of interventionist, there is intervention professional, and Advanced Clinical Intervention Professional. Both are offered at The Addictions Academy, with advanced clinical intervention being the longer course. Both intervention professional programs contain case management, ethics training and 10 weeks of clinical supervision to help the student understand how to actually do an intervention in the field. All exams and credentials are included in the 36 hour and 54 hour training programs.
